The readers in our Nobel team enjoyed chatting about a psychological suspense book at our monthly N.A.R.A. (Nobel Anonymous Readers Association) book club meeting. The book in question was “The Girl Before” by JP Delaney, a thriller that kept us guessing until the very end.
The novel is written from a dual point of view, as Emma and Jane alternately take on the role of (unreliable) narrators. Through their perspectives as former and current tenants of a minimalistic house on One Folgate Street in London, we learn about the chilling secrets associated both with the house and the enigmatic architect who designed it. The weird rules that the occupants have to follow in order to be allowed to inhabit the house are just the tip of the iceberg in this addictive story of deception, seduction, duplicity and death.
Book club members had fun at our virtual gathering debating about different characters, plot twists, the writing style and more. As always, it was great to share opinions with fellow teammates, spend quality time together and discuss something outside the usual work business.
We also picked our next read, “Scythe” by Neal Shusterman, a young-adult science fiction dystopian novel, the first installment in the “Arc of a Scythe” series. We are looking forward to our meeting where we will be talking about it!
