It was time for a sci-fi book to be read at our Nobel Anonymous Readers Association (N.A.R.A.) Book Club. The enthusiastic readers in our book club read and discussed the first installment in a sci-fi series – “The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet” by Becky Chambers.
As usual, we met in a virtual setting and shared our thoughts about the book of the month and had fun spending quality time with colleagues from different parts of the world. Those of us who are not sci-fi readers were surprised to find a very accessible book in Becky Chambers’ work, while the sci-fi connoisseurs compared it to other classic pieces in the genre.
The story follows the adventures of the Wayfarer ship crew in space as well as the relationships between the very diverse cast of characters. We appreciated the originality of the different species featured in this book and the concept of “found family” that is present throughout the story.
The book club meeting was another great opportunity to bond over our passion for books and enjoy a lovely discussion with fellow bookish team members. We are looking forward to the next virtual encounter, when we will be discussing a contemporary romance novel.
