Besides many other fun Christmas activities that we had as a team in December, we also met online to discuss the book of the month at our Nobel Anonymous Readers Association book club.
December’s pick was “Hercule Poirot’s Christmas” by Agatha Christie. What better way to spend a chilly winter evening than curled up with a hot beverage and a cozy murder mystery? At the virtual book club meeting, the bookish Nobel team members shared their thoughts about the book, whether they guessed or had difficulty in guessing the culprit in this story and what they enjoyed most in the book.
We agreed that after getting familiarized with the different characters in the story, the reader has a tendency to distrust all of them at some point. “The Queen of Crime” engaged us in a holiday story where Christmas peace is disrupted by murder. The book tells the story of Simeon Lee, a millionaire who invites all of his four sons and their wives at his mansion for Christmas. When the old man is killed mysteriously while alone in his closed bedroom, the famous Belgian detective Hercule Poirot steps in to solve the case.
A story about revenge being a dish best served cold, “Hercule Poirot’s Christmas” was the perfect ending of our 2021 reading year. We are excited to have more Fun at Work in 2022, at our monthly N.A.R.A. book club meetings.
