Yet again, we had a great time at our monthly virtual book club gathering, where we discussed a debut contemporary romance novel – “Cleopatra and Frankenstein” by Coco Mellors.
When young artist Cleo marries twenty years older Frank soon after they meet, their impulsive decision sends a ripple effect in both their own lives and in the lives of those close to them. Set in contemporary New York, the story explores topics related to identity, immigration, mental health, addiction, love, human connection and the silver lining that can be found in apparent failure.
Opinions were divided regarding this book between the members of our N.A.R.A. (Nobel Anonymous Readers Association) book club. Some of us appreciated the narrative and the characters more than others, but nevertheless we had a very engaging conversation about the themes explored in this novel. We went to great lengths to dissect the meanings behind the different scenes of the book in an attempt to grasp the purpose of Coco Mellors’ debut book.
Next on our book club’s reading list is the international bestseller novel “Marina” by the highly acclaimed Spanish writer Carlos Ruiz Zafon.
N.A.R.A. (Nobel Anonymous Readers Association) is our company book club and the perfect setting for informal and engaging monthly discussions about our shared passion for reading and books. We are an international company, so our meetings take place in an online environment. We always enjoy our time together as we get to connect and exchange opinions with colleagues from different countries.
